The happiest and most prosperous of new years to you all!
First let me begin by thanking everyone who follows this work, for your patience and understanding when phone calls, texts, and emails went unanswered. I had a house flood, which was the second in just two years. The good thing is that I have a house that has been virtually rebuilt. The not-so-good thing is that I truly missed doing the work that my Lord God, my mama, and my ancestors all require of me - racial equity conversations.
I would also like to thank the very capable, prolific, and powerful facilitators that I was able to call upon in my stead, who can do the work at a far greater magnitude than I. Mother Oprah told us all to surround ourselves with people who would take us higher, and some random also said that we were the sum total of the five people with whom we spend the most time. Though one is filthy rich, both are right. And my colleagues truly make me better.
Lastly, I would like to thank my husband Josh. The way that he has been there to support me, listen to my frustrations which have absolutely nothing to do with him, and undergird me with his stillness and compassion, is like this: Most of us have had the flu or a terrible cold, right? The kind where the fever is so high that your muscles feel like you’ve been in a boxing match, your ears ring, and your head is the weight of an anvil? And your throat feels like Satan himself snatched it out and put it on his fireplace mantle as a trophy? Get into that very moment where you are convinced that the flu is going to be your bitter end, and imagine an icy Sprite with a bendable straw so that you don’t even need to lift your screaming, atomic head. That cold first sip that provides the right amount of cold and tickle to remind you that you are indeed alive, you will indeed make it, and that simplicity is the cure to complexity? That’s my man. An ice cold drink.
God bless him, and God bless you, and look forward to upcoming work! I will be back at Montessori Northwest on February 2, and will be hosting the RaceSpace workshops in June - with many more events scattered in between.
